7 Things We Are Leaving in 2023 - Social Media Edition
It is nearly a new year, the perfect time to make changes to your social media strategy for your local business. THESE are the things that should be left behind in 2023 and what you should be bringing into 2024 to see improved success of social media.
Ready?
Creating content for “everyone”.
Everyone is not your target audience, so stop making content for them. In 2024 I want you to get specific on your target audience and then create content especially for them. Content that speaks to them, that touches on their pain points, that talks their language, that is going to appeal to them.
2. Thinking that hashtags alone are going to grow your account.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but hashtags are not a reliable method of growing your account when used on their own. Keep using hashtags, but don’t place your whole growth strategy in their hands. Do your research and create a well-rounded growth strategy.
3. Only creating content based on trending topics.
Who are you reaching when you create this trending content? Probably not a whole lot of your target audience. You need to create well-rounded, entertaining, attention-grabbing content that is in different formats - videos, blog posts, static posts, and stories.
4. Trying to come across as something you’re not.
Authentic was really a buzzword in 2023, and for good reason, it’ll continue in 2024. People want authenticity, they want real, they want to see the real you. Stop trying to be someone that you are not and let your personality shine through.
5. Ignoring your analytics.
When you pay no attention to your analytics you are discarding the exact data that tells you what content is a hit with your audience, and what is a miss. These analytics can guide you to successful content and successful strategy on social media.
6. Using AI as your be-all and end-all.
AI is great… as a guide. I truly believe you should be using this technology as a guide. Don’t copy and paste your captions straight from ChatGPT, it sounds robotic and stiff, you need to add character and flair. Don’t automate every single aspect of your engagement, people want personal and in-touch. Use it, but personalise it.
7. Only creating video content.
Engage your audience and the algorithm by creating a wide variety of content. Create Reels, create static posts, create carousels, create stories, don’t just create short-form videos. Mix it up, get creative, and keep people entertained. (and don’t just rely on trending audio when you DO create short-form videos.)
Social media platforms are constantly evolving and changing, what worked for you before won’t necessarily work for you now. Experiment, research, change things up, do not let the social media for your local business become static.
